Picture Thank You Cards: Picture This

Thank you. Merci. Danke. Xie-xie. How many ways are there to say “thank you”? Especially when the person you’re thanking doesn’t speak French, German or Chinese? There are a few variations, but in general “thank you (so much, very much…)” “with gratitude,” and some form of “appreciate” are about it without getting unnecessarily obscure.

Picture thank you cards, however, offer a much wider field. Line, color, shape and so on can get your message across as well or better than words. A photo in tune with your theme can work (a bride or groom, a baby, something from nature), but graphics and drawings add a touch of originality, as well.

The question is, what are you thanking the person for? A gift? Teaching you a sport? Helping you build something? Your picture can suggest the reason: a pretty package, sports equipment, or a hammer and nails.

Borders count. An embossed pattern, a corner sunburst, or a colorful geometric - each makes a different point and gives a different “feel” to your card. A background (a winter scene, butterflies, some squiggly lines) is not essential, but it’s a nice addition.

And for the main focus choose a design from abstract, to cute, to solemn. Flowers dominate but keep looking and you may find something more original, such as “Thank you” written in seashells, ribbon or patterned letters; a jungle scene, a cartoon animal, or a stylish shoe below above or next to the words. The language of pictures says “Thank you” best.
